Quotes of the month
Sarah Palin, Aretha Franklin & Tom DeLay said some of January's memorable words.
The deadly shootings in Arizona that injured U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords -- and reactions to it -- have dominated headlines throughout the month of January.Sarah Palin took heat for the harsh words she unleashed on critics
who attacked the rhetoric and imagery she used against Giffords and other "liberals" during the midterm elections."Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn," the potential 2012 presidential candidate said in a video posted to her Facebook page.
Other news that sparked memorable quotes:
* The vote to repeal health care reform was a close second.
* Certain celebrities turned a few heads.
* As did the mysterious Arkansas fish plague, one of many odd examples of freakish acts of nature in January 2011.
Lloyd Banks
"I think every artist, you make mistakes when you come into the game. I made my first million dollars when I was 20 years old, and I was too scared to touch it. I eat humble pie every morning, so I really didn't have the temptation to go out there and live beyond my means."Lloyd Banks, a member of the rap group G-Unit, may have gotten that dish of humble pie from an incident he blamed on "sticky fingers."
John Boehner
"Repeal means paving the way for better solutions that will lower the cost without destroying jobs or bankrupting our government. Repeal means keeping a promise. This is what we said we would do."House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohio Republican and former linebacker, made good on a campaign promise when he led the House vote to repeal President Obama's signature health care reform legislation.
Brandy
"Now I'm expecting a child? WOW!!! Please check out the story for your morning comedy.. lol. At in and out... Wondering if I should get a double double since I'm eating for 'two.'"Mississippi-born and California-raised actress and singer Brandy refutes rampant Internet rumors that she's expecting. "Brandy: Special Delivery," you may recall, was a reality series following the R&B singer's 2002 pregnancy with her daughter, Sy'rai.
Aretha Franklin
"Halle Berry is my pick. For the last four years, we've been talking about that, and I have had a number of offers, but unfortunately they were not good offers. Now we have something on the table."Who will play the legendary soul singer in a biopic that's in the works? The legend herself made her choice clear but got a less-than-enthusiastic response from the actress she picked.
Wyclef Jean
"I saw Pras on the flight and as a Fugees member I didn't know whether to elbow him, shoot him or give him a kiss and we gave a hug."Wyclef Jean set aside his differences with an ex-Fugees bandmate after they boarded the same plane to Haiti to mark the anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the impoverished Caribbean country.
Kim Kardashian
"Trust me, I've tried Botox on the show. I'm the first one to talk about anything that I do. It really pisses me off that all of these plastic surgery rumors are always linked to me."Reality TV socialite Kim Kardashian has spawned thousands of websites with before-and-after "evidence" of her Botox injections.
Mark Kelly
"The kids … Claudia and Claire start crying. My mother, you know … I think she almost screamed. And I just, you know, walked into the bathroom, and you know, broke down. To hear that she died is just, it's devastating for me."NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that he watched erroneous television reports that his wife had died in the shootings in Tucson.
Jay Leno on Tom DeLay
"Former House Majority LeaderTom DeLay, once considered one of the nation's most powerful and feared lawmakers, was sentenced to three years in prison yesterday. The judge sentenced him to two years for money laundering and an extra year for his performance on 'Dancing With the Stars.'"Jay Leno piled it on after the famous political powerhouse, who earned this nickname for his strict enforcement of party rules, was convicted in a money laundering scandal.
David Letterman on Hillary Clinton
"Oh, how about this? Getting off an airplane, Hillary Clinton tripped and fell and maybe broke some bones. So just to be precautionary, they took her to the emergency room and wrapped her up in a full-body pantsuit."
Brandon Lewis & Ashley Fansler
"[The doctor] said, 'You know, if we wanted to deliver one this year and then one next year, we could do that if … everything is open … we decided to do it that way, and everything worked out."Brandon Lewis, whose twins were born on each side of the 2010-2011 divide, told an Illinois TV station about how he and his wife decided to space the C-section births of their babies.
Jennifer Lopez
"I feel really anxious about cutting half the kids today, I really do. I'm really not looking forward to it. You want to pick the right ones and you want to see who's really going to make a great show, and at the same time, be great artists. But I feel like we have so many good ones that we're going to lose some good ones today. And that's what bothers me."Voted one of the most influential 20th-century Hispanics, Jennifer Lopez is a first-year "American Idol" judge, along with Steven Tyler, and has spoken candidly about the difficulty of her new job.
Rebecca Mansour & Sarah Palin
"We never ever, ever intended it to be gun sights. It was simply crosshairs like you'd see on maps."In an interview with radio talk show host Tammy Bruce, Sarah Palin political action committee staffer Rebecca Mansour defended the graphics Palin took down off her website after the Tucson shootings.
Some Palin aides suggested the crosshairs had been misconstrued and could instead be seen as these types of symbols.
Nicki Minaj on Rihanna
"I love Ri-Ri! I mean, when she's not grabbing my a** she's a sweet girl ... I like everyone."Rapper and R&B singer-songwriter Nicki Minaj didn't seem to mind the hands-on exchange she had with Rihanna at the 2010 American Music Awards .
Conan O'Brien & Larry King
"Today's Jan. 11, 2011. That makes it 1/11/11, something that only happens once every 100 years. Isn't that cool? When someone told Larry King, he said, 'This again?'"Conan O'Brien is back on TV, and Larry King is off after a long, long run.
Sarah Palin
"I will continue to speak out. They're not going to shut me up."Sarah Palin spoke out on FOX News about accusations that her fiery political rhetoric had a connection to the Arizona shootings.
Malik Mumtaz Qadri
"He did blasphemy of the Prophet Muhammad."Malik Mumtaz Qadri, a security guard for Salman Taseer, reportedly confessed to killing the governor of the Pakistani state of Punjab. Taseer had expressed reservations about certain controversial laws in Pakistan.
Tony Parker
"The most important thing is to stay strong mentally, even if these are very difficult times. I've taken refuge in basketball because that's what I've done best since my youth."San Antonio Spurs star guard Tony Parker opened up about how he's handling the end of his marriage to this famous "Desperate Housewife."
Eugene Robinson on Sarah Palin
"In the spirit of civil discourse, I'd like to humbly suggest that Sarah Palin please consider being quiet for a while. Perhaps a great while."Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson was among many commentators who criticized the former Alaska governor for comments she made in the wake of the Arizona shootings.
Keith Stephens & Arkansas Game and Fish
"Right now it's fine to fish. If you go out there you can still fish for bass and crappie, catfish, it will be fine. Obviously don't eat the dead fish."Keith Stephens, spokesman for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, tried to reassure the public -- at least somewhat -- after massive numbers of fish turned up dead in the Arkansas River. There were other odd cases of animals dying en masse, like these birds that fell from the sky in Louisiana.
Tom DeLay
"I can't be remorseful for something I don't think I did."Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLaymaintained his innocence even after he was convicted of money laundering. He blamed his fate on the place where he stood trial. He has made his share of enemies over the years and may make more when he goes to prison.
Mohamed Bouazizi
"They are deeply symbolic means of protest in a region that has little or no tolerance for dissent."Associated Press correspondent Hamza Hendawi commented on the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi, an act that has been credited for helping to topple the Tunisian government. This method of protest grabbed headlines during the Vietnam War. It has a long history.

You thought you could ignore Kim Kardashian and her family -- then one day you came back from lunch, and they had taken over the world.

Kim, Kourtney and Khloe (and Kylie and Kendall and Kris and Rob) have become such kash kows for reality TV that it's only a matter of time before another celebrity family will eventually step up and try to claim a piece of the action. And just as Kim, the first sister to become famous, had a stash of surprisingly camera-ready siblings, you might be surprised at what other celebrities have cute clans of their own.

Here are seven sets of celeb-sibs we think could be the next Kardashian-style reality TV family:

AnnaLynne, Rachel and Angel McCord

23-year-old AnnaLynne McCord is as equally famous for having dated "Twilight" star Kellan Lutz as she is for her skinny, oft-bikini-clad frame or her role as conniving rich girl Naomi Clark on the CW's "90210." Older sis Angel is probably more famous for being AnnaLynne's faithful sidekick than she is for her aspiring film career But the gals' other sis -- adorable brunette Rachel -- is slightly more successful: she's appeared on Victoria Justice's "Victorious" and recently completed the film "Getting That Girl."
Miley, Noah and Trace Cyrus

We all know what a bad gal Miss Miley, 18, can be given her recent scandals. And it seems like her little sister Noah is following suit. Given her penchant for wearing skimpy clothes, it seems like the 11-year-old actress, whose voice was used in the animated feature "Ponyo," is following all of her big sister's bad gal cues. At least 21-year-old brother Trace, the frontman of pop-rock band Metro Station, seems slightly normal, despite his aggressively Gothic rocker boy style.
Lindsay, Ali & Cody Lohan

Admit it: you'd watch the Lohan Show. An hour-long episode would be filled with more drama than most of us see in our entire lives! Eldest sis Lindsay has done it all by the ripe old age of 24 -- and that includes launching her own legging line, 6126; modeling, acting, singing and, oh, a few stints in jail and rehab thrown in for good measure. Seventeen-year-old Ali followed in her sister's footsteps, having modeled from the age of three, released a holiday album last year, made guest appearances on a few minor TV shows and starred in her family's reality series, "Living Lohan." Little bro Dakota "Cody", 14, has also – you guessed it – modeled, and appeared with Ali on their family's E! show. Let's just hope the younger Lohans don't follow Lindsay into everything.
Mary-Kate, Ashley & Elizabeth Olsen

24-year-old twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were already multi-millionaires before they became legal with successful careers in fashion, TV, film and music, so it would seem downright unfair that another fame-seeking Olsen should exist. But the pint-sized fashionistas DO have another soon-to-be-famous sister: 21-year-old Elizabeth, half of the inspiration behind their Elizabeth & James clothing line. Watch for little brunette "Lizzie" to make it big in 2011 with the film "Peace, Love and Misunderstanding" alongside Jane Fonda and Chace Crawford.
Blake, Robyn and Lori Lively

You've got to love Blake Lively just as much for her gorgeous Upper East Side "Gossip Girl" style as you do for her smart career choices But the 23-year-old starlet's half-sisters are trying to make an impact in Hollywood as well. Robyn was the "Teen Witch" and is making a comeback on TV shows like "Cold Case" and "Saving Grace," while middle sis Lori has appeared on shows like "The Defenders" and "'Til Death."
Samantha, Mark & Charlotte Ronson

Samantha Ronson is infamous for being Lindsay Lohan's former other half, but the 33-year-old isn't just a woman who's loved LiLo: she also happens to be a successful Hollywood DJ. Music seems to run in the family as well, as older brother Mark Ronson, has both a similar street-wise style and job as an internationally renowned DJ; he's collaborated with fellow Brit acts like Adele, Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen. Rounding out the super-successful fam is Sam's twin sister Charlotte Ronson, the designer behind the chic, New York-based label of the same name. Now here's the real question: would the Ronson Show be better off on the Style network or MTV?
Penelope, Eduardo & Monica Cruz

Penelope Cruz is a force to be reckoned with: an Oscar winner whose known as much for her sultry and glam red carpet style as she is for her equally famous husband, Javier Bardem. But did you know the 36-year-old L'Oreal spokesperson's younger sister, Monica, is a well-known actress in their native country? The 33-year-old has acted in foreign films land was her big sister's stand-in for the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." The two can also add fashion to their list of talents: they've both designed pieces for Spanish line Mango. Meanwhile, there's one more talented Cruz in the bunch: little bro Eduardo is an an aspiring pop star (recently rumored to be seeing Eva Longoria -- check out one of his music videos here), blessed with the good looks that run in the family.

What do Ben Stiller, Anne Hathaway and P Diddy all have in common? They're all partial to a spot of movie-themed fancy dress…
For some, just watching a film isn't enough - many people take their movie experience to the next level by dressing up as their favourite film heroes.
See celebrities dressed up as movie characters here.

Teri Hatcher as The Queen Of Hearts

We almost didn't recognise Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher in this picture... Perhaps the actress was subtly hinting to casting agents that she wouldn't have minded playing Helena Bonham Carter's role in the latest Alice in Wonderland flick - maybe next time Teri...

Will Ferrell as Megamind

We've heard of actors getting into character, but we think Will Ferrell may have taken it a notch too far when he turned up to The Today Show dressed as his Megamind alter-ego.

AnnaLynne McCord as a Na'vi

90210 stunner AnnaLynne McCord was feeling a bit blue when this snap was taken on the set of her show... In the episode being filmed, AnnaLynne's character, Naomi, dresses as a Na'vi to impress her latest geek-crush - whatever happened to just buying a new dress?

Anne Hathaway as Cleopatra

The Devil Wears Prada star swapped Gucci for gold when she dressed up as the legendary Egyptian Queen Cleopatra in 2004.

Ben Stiller as a Na'vi

We all know that Ben Stiller's character Zoolander loved a bit of Blue Steel, but this is taking it to a whole new level... The actor dressed up as a Na'vi at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards Show and we think he looks a little bit on the scary side.

Jason Biggs as Dorothy

American Pie's Jason Biggs is used to being chuckled at, but we think he looks hilarious dressed up as a sweet and innocent-looking Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz. Now, he's off to see the stylist...

Jennifer Love Hewitt as Audrey Hepburn

Jennifer Love Hewitt couldn't resist dressing up as movie goddess Audrey Hepburn...

Jesus Luz as The Joker

No wonder Jesus Luz isn't smiling - he's dressed up as one of the most sinister characters in movie history and he was also going out with Madonna at the time...

Katy Perry as Jessica Rabbit

Katy Perry looks fabulous dressed up as the uber-hot Jessica Rabbit from the classic kid-flick Who Framed Roger Rabbit? She wore the sizzling outfit at the 'VH1 Divas Salute the Troops' concert last year.

Kim Kardashian as Wonder Woman

Never one to miss an opportunity for publicity or to wear something a bit on the skimpy side, Kim Kardashian donned a very revealing Wonder Woman outfit for a fancy dress party that left very little to wonder...

Liv Tyler as Pocahontas

Liv Tyler looked shy when she was snapped as Disney's Pocahontas in 2007.

P. Diddy as a Gladiator

It's OK P. Diddy - we won't tell anyone that you secretly wanted to audition for Russell Crowe's role in Gladiator... The rapper wore this Roman ensemble at a Halloween party back in 2004.

Russell Brand as Batman

Comedian and actor Russell Brand looks like he has muscles to put Arnie to shame in this picture...either that or he has inflatable muscles which he's slyly blowing up with that straw. Russell stepped out as the caped crusader while filming a project over in the States in 2010.

Sting as Robin Hood

Fantasy worlds collided in 2006 when Trudie Styler turned up to a charity event as a Legolas-inspired elf and her husband, Sting, arrived as a rugged-looking Robin Hood.
